January 24, 2023Maintaining Health and Independence through Active Ageing Classes with Altaira
Ageing is a normal part of life. Your body goes through many changes as you age, and this changes the body’s ability to perform daily activities. Some of these changes are normal and natural, while others may require extra help in order to lead a healthy life. One way to maintain mental and physical health as you age is through participating in exercise sessions that are tailored for your specific age groups.
Active ageing classes can be very beneficial for seniors, as they can help reduce the risk and severity of chronic diseases, as well as improve balance and agility. In addition to these physical benefits, active ageing classes also provide an opportunity for older people to meet others in their community and socialise with people of a similar age.
Altaira’s Allied Health and Wellness Centre recently launched their new initiative, Active Ageing Sessions (Silver Saints), , in collaboration with Eastern United FC, in order to improve the physical and mental wellbeing for seniors in the Campbelltown community and surrounding areas. These free exercise sessions are aimed at reducing the risk of chronic diseases and promoting overall health and well-being as people age.
The active ageing sessions have been very beneficial, helping attendees identify areas of their body that needs strengthening and provided self-management strategies for dealing with pain and injury. Under the guidance of Altaira’s lead Physiotherapist Michael, the attendees have gained more confidence in maintaining their independence in the community, which is an important aspect of active ageing. In addition to improving strength and addressing any issues with pain and injury, the class has also helped the attendees gain more flexibility and perform exercises in different ways.
Every Tuesday at 8:30 am, Altaira Allied Health and Wellness Centre offers active ageing sessions for seniors at Eastern United Football Club, located at 267 Lower Athelstone Road in Athelstone. On Thursdays and Fridays at 9:30 am and 10:00 am respectively, the sessions are held at Altaira’s main location, 629 Lower North East Road, Campbelltown.
These sessions are open to men and women over the age of 65 and are completely free for everyone to attend. Through these classes, seniors are able to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle, while also staying engaged and connected to their community. The classes provide a chance for seniors to meet and socialise with others of similar age.
At Altaira, we are dedicated to caring for the aged communities and providing high-quality resources and support to help seniors maintain their independence and well-being. We believe that active ageing classes are an important part of this effort, and we are committed to offering these classes on a regular basis to help seniors stay healthy and active as they age.
