World Mental Health Day 10th October & Mental Health Week 9-16th October
When we think about looking after our health we often think about our physical health rather than our mental health, but they are equally as important. It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of life and forget to take time out for yourself to do things that you enjoy doing. At Altaira, we believe in having a health work/life balance and looking after ourselves and the people around us.
Here’s some tips on how you can look after your mental health:
-
Ensure you get enough sleep every night. Getting 8 hours of rest each night allows your brain and body to regenerate and recover and puts you in a good mood.
-
Stay hydrated and eat a healthy diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables. Your physical health can impact your mental health so it’s important to start there.
-
Make sure you move your body every day. Go for a walk, do a workout, dance around the room, play with the kids etc. Physical exercise has been proven to make a huge impact on people’s mental health.
-
Manage your workload and ensure you take some annual leave each year. Breaks are important so you don’t burn yourself out.
-
Manage your stress levels, practice self love, take time to relax and do the things that make you happy. Try meditating for 15 minutes per day to refocus and destress.
-
Stay connected with friends and family, don’t isolate yourself. Regular contact with loved ones is important and talking to people about your struggles can really help.
-
Don’t be afraid to seek professional help if you’re feeling overwhelmed or down. There is an abundance of resources dedicated to helping people who are struggling with their mental health. Head to https://mentalhealthweek.org.au/support for more information.
